Carotid Shortness

Open surgery (carotid endarterectomy) or closed (endovascular) method can be applied in appropriate cases.

 Open surgery
Open surgery can be done by local, spinal or general anesthesia. The plaque forming the stiffness is surgically removed. It is enough for the patient to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days.

Endovascular method
n the endovascular method, the pubic area is numbed by local anesthesia and the special needles enter the cervical artery. Angiography is taken and the location of the stenosis is determined. A temporary filter is installed to prevent small particles from passing into the bloodstream before stenting. Then a stent (metal tube) is placed in the stenosis area and the stenosis is opened. Stenting is an equally successful procedure with open surgery. It is sufficient for patients to stay in the hospital one day after the procedure.

Carotid disease, which means stenosis of the neck veins feeding the brain; It is frequently seen in heart patients. Narrowing of the neck veins can lead to numbness, dizziness, paralysis, or even death. The main cause is atherosclerosis, known as vessel stiffness. It is recommended that every patient who will have heart surgery be controlled and if necessary, operated in this direction before the operation.
