Addison Treatment

Since Addison's disease is caused by a deficiency of hormones produced from the adrenal glands, treatment of the disease is performed by supplementing these missing hormones. This is done by taking one or two hydrocortisone steroid hormone tablets per day depending on the condition or severity of the disease. When necessary, aldosterone is replaced with a synthetic steroid called fludrocortisone acetate, which is taken once a day as a tablet.

These medicines can sometimes be increased in dose due to reasons such as stress, infection, surgery or disability by doctor intervention. Drug treatments in Addison's disease are always successful. Patients who continue their treatments regularly continue their normal lives without any problems. But to prevent the forgetting of medication clocks, the bracelets used for signaling medical purposes and patient ID cards should be used for emergencies because Addison's disease is a life-long chronic disease. It can be dangerous to miss even a single dose.

In patients with Addison syndrome or a crisis, the patient is given a rapid injection of salt, liquid and glucocorticoid hormones prescribed by the doctor.
