Pharyngitis

Antibiotics do not work for pharyngitis caused by viruses. However, antibiotics may be recommended for severe infections or when the immune system is very weak. Antibiotics as well as pain relievers, antihistamines, nasal decongestants, cough suppressants and mouthwashes can be used in patients with allergies. Pastilles are often useless.

Treatment of chronic pharyngitis is very difficult. Both the practitioner and the patient need to pay attention to some situations. Whether or not there is another factor that causes chronic pharyngitis should be considered to determine treatment. Antibiotics are often useless. Allergy, curvature of the nasal bone or diseases such as meat, sinusitis, reflux should be corrected surgically if necessary.
