Perthes Disease Treatment

In Perthes disease, some of the femur head bone or bone necrosis, which we call necrosis, is seen with impairment of femur head feeding. By the body, this necrotic bone is absorpted (removed from the middle), resulting in new bone formation. In this reconstruction process, bones are softer and weaker that fractures and collapses in the headbone can occur during trauma such as jumping, jumping and falling.

When reconstructed, the femur head takes shape according to the pressure it receives. For this reason, it is aimed that the femur head is kept in the nest section of the hip joint, which we call acetabulum. In this way the development in the global structure is targeted. The main goal in the treatment of Perthes' disease is to maintain joint range of motion, which can develop in the head global structure. Especially in painful periods, rest and antiemflammatory drugs are recommended. The process of Perthes disease lasts for 2 - 2.5 years. In this process, the child should be prevented from having excessive sporting activities, high jump and participation in contact sports as much as possible.

Nevertheless, the child's daily activities are not restricted. Plaster application in the open legs to hold the femur head ball in the nest, using a set of orthoses, and surgical procedures are methods used by Pediatric Orthopedists. The long course of the illness (2 - 2.5 years) makes it difficult for children to adjust to gypsy or orthosis treatment. For this reason, many orthopedists tend to surgical treatment when necessary. The main purpose of the surgeon is to ensure that the femur head is placed in the acetabulum housing to allow for the development of the global structur
